Academic English Skills aims to provide thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable international students to best achieve their academic potential at university. Our Academic English programme is validated by UK ENIC, the UK government agency responsible for providing information and expert opinion on qualifications and skills worldwide.

You will develop awareness and competency in a range of language-related academic skills, including the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.

Alongside your classes, your studies will be supported by an online learning platform, providing you with a range of tasks and activities specifically designed to develop and extend your language and academic skills outside the classroom and to give you more control over your own learning.

This module provides an interactive learning experience which enables students to develop an enterprising mindset and identify some of the skills and attributes required in both intrapreneurship and entrepreneurship. Students are encouraged to think in an enterprising fashion and learn new approaches, enabling them to adapt and enhance their individual style. Working as part of a team, students develop their own sustainability business idea. They also have the opportunity to hear from and question experienced external practitioners.

This module develops and equips learners with the financial knowledge and techniques required by all managers. It provides an understanding of the way in which accounting is used in the external evaluation of organisations and develops the ability to use accounting in decision making, control and managing and adding value to performance.

This module helps students to become more aware of their own personal and professional development through reflection and interaction with peers. Drawing on related theories, students develop skills which will enhance their future employability. They also gain an understanding of the importance of personal development and develop a skill set for their future careers.

This module introduces some of the general principles of business management particularly in the context of structure, culture, leadership, organisational behaviour and the business environment. Students are introduced to the concept of foundation level strategic management, with emphasis on organisational resource and competency and consider the impact of organisational behaviour in relation to overall business effectiveness. Students examine the role of the individual within the organisation and explore motivation, perception, personal impact and performance management. In addition, this module covers project management.

This module introduces basic economic theories of markets and competition along with aspects of the wider business environment, including government policy and the macro-economy. These ideas are then applied to the practical analysis of markets using Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning framework.
