How to book your room

It is important to arrange your accommodation before you arrive in the UK. Not only will this give you peace of mind that you know where you will be staying, this will ensure that you have no difficulty confirming your course at immigration or police registration (if required).

  1. Request accommodation when you apply for the International Study Centre.
  2. Confirm your place at the International Study Centre.

The Central Student Support team will then contact you with information about the next steps you need to take to book your accommodation. If you applied directly through our online application form, your Student Enrolment Advisor will answer any questions you have about your accommodation options, the facilities offered and what you need to bring with you.

Please note, the accommodation options available may depend on your study start date. Once you have confirmed your place on the course – and have indicated on your application that you would like International Study Centre accommodation – we will contact you to advise you on the residences available to you.

Act early if you can

We have good availability of accommodation for upcoming intakes, however we encourage applying as soon as is possible to maximise chances of getting a room offer and in the accommodation type that suits you best. Accommodation is still available, but please note it is allocated on a first-come-first served basis.

Once you have confirmed your course you will be contacted by the Central Student Support team, who will give you information on available accommodation options and how to book them.

Arranging your own accommodation

If you prefer to arrange your own accommodation, please note that you must live within a 50-mile distance from the International Study Centre. It is your responsibility to ensure this is arranged and ready for your arrival in the UK.

Whatever your budget, there are many different private accommodation options available, in various locations close to the International Study Centre. We are here to help and will support you every step of the way.

Living close to the Centre comes with many benefits, such as a more lively atmosphere, access to restaurants and entertainment venues and other cultural activities. It is the best way to get the most out of your time studying in the UK.

Look out for fraud

Scammers may specifically target international students so it is important to be able to recognise common signs of fraudulent activity and know what to do if you come across it. Let us know at fraudreporting@studygroup.com if you have any concerns about fraudulent activity when dealing with a private accommodation provider so that we can help to protect you and other international students in case they are targeted in the same way.

Nearby locations to live

These towns have more to offer than just their ideal location. Whether you're after a vibrant university town or a quieter seaside home, these nearby locations are all within the required 50-mile distance of the University.

Middlesbrough is a popular, affordable place to live. Many younger people choose to live here because of how close the University is, creating a diverse, vibrant community. Middlesbrough was recently named as one of the small cities of the future by the Financial Times.

Middlesbrough boasts a lively atmosphere with restaurants, busy shopping centres and a range of entertainment venues, from pubs and sports centres to galleries and museums. If you enjoy exploring the outdoors, then you will find many relaxing hotspots, such as the popular Stewart and Albert Parks. There is something for everyone and, because you'll be close to the International Study Centre, you will have your whole world at your doorstep.

Darlington is a large market town located in County Durham. Lovingly known as ‘Darlo’, it has a rich industrial history and was the birthplace of the world's first steam-powered passenger railway. Smaller than Middlesbrough, it is perfect for students who want a quieter university experience, whilst also having strong travel links to the University: the International Study Centre is only 40 minutes away by train, or 22-40 minutes by car.

Most commonly known as Stockton, Stockton-on-Tees is a small market town only a 30 minute train journey away from the University. It is located on the banks of the River Tees, offering peaceful riverside walks or water sports activities for those seeking something more adventurous.
Travel around Darlington is very affordable, giving you easy access to nearby cities such as Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Durham. Stay local or travel further out to see everything that North Yorkshire and Durham has to offer.

Redcar is a beautiful seaside town located on the coast of Yorkshire. It is only 7 miles from Middlesbrough, so a fun night out with friends is never too far away. A perfect place to live for those wanting to live near the sea, whilst maintaining close links to the University and other towns.

The University is just 30 minutes away by train, or 15-25 minutes by car.

Located just 35 minutes away by train (20-35 minutes by car), Saltburn is a seaside town very close to Middlesbrough. Known for its stunning beaches and striking Victorian architecture, whether you like surfing, exploring or visiting one of the many independent shops, Saltburn is perfect for those who want to be only a moment away from the coast.
